In 2007 the Regenboog India Foundation opened The Sarasvathi Children’s Home in response to the dire need to house orphaned and abandoned children living in and around Tiruvannamalai.  A home was rented in Vediyappanur village near Tiruvannamalai that could house up to 24 of these children.  Since then, the Sarasvathi Children’s Home has provided a loving family environment to an ever growing number of children. The children are supported in all ways to become self-sustained adults, including encouragement and financial support to attend college.  Currently, the Children’s Home is stretched to its capacity with many more children in need of its services.

Recently, the Stichting Sarasvathi Children Foundation in Holland provided us with funds to buy a land for much improved Children’s Home. With this support, we have bought a 0.96 acre parcel of land for the project and now we are working an architect to develop plans for the building. We anticipate moving the children into their new home middle of 2012.

The new Children’s Home will comfortably house 30-40 children with separate buildings housing 10-14 children and a housemother. The design of the Children’s Village will be a model for the care of orphaned and abandoned children in India. The Home will be eco-friendly with a solar water heater, rain water harvesting system and gardens for herbs, vegetables, flowers, and fruit trees. The building will include a reception area, a separate room for children who are ill, rooms where the children can study and play, and a separate roof top for the Classical music and dance lessons. There will also be a library with computers that will be open to all villagers living in the area. Volunteers have installed well equipped playground already and this is also be available to any children. Children living in the Home are learning vocal (classical Tamil music) and instrumental music lessons (Veenai and Violin) and classical dance classes (Bharatha Nattiyam).
